Summary
The Convention of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREG) was adopted in 1972 and has been applied for the past 42 years. Various organizations engaged in researching marine accidents confirm that ship collisions are one of the most common types of accidents at sea. The accidents reports show that the most common cause of collisions at sea is the lack of understanding of the COLREGs and their inappropriate use. Therefore, the aim of this questionnaire is to check the level of understanding and the degree of correct application of COLREGs by students at maritime schools and colleges, seafarers on merchant ships, teachers and lecturers at maritime institutions, as well as with masters of the fishing boats and yachts.
